WHAT IS AYLUS?
AYLUS, or the Alliance of Youth Leaders in the United States, is a student-run nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of communities across the country. ALYUS is a PVSA (Presidential Volunteer Service Award) Certifying Organization, and can help its members apply for PVSA Gold, Silver, and Bronze service medals.
ABOUT THE SYOSSET BRANCH
The Syosset Branch of AYLUS was founded after the founders had each explored multiple avenues of contribution to the communities combating repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic in recent months. Our branch has a total of 60 members at its second anniversary. The branch has participated in numerous environmental protection, civic engagement, and community cohesion events and received high level honors such as the Nassau County Legislature Cittions from Josh Lafazan for outstanding service and commitment to the local community in 2021.
AYLUS-Syosset has carried out numerous environmental protection programs. In their composting program, volunteers construct and fill compost bins for houses around our community in order to combat the widespread problem of food waste. In another program, we lead clean ups of highly used outdoor areas such as streets, public parks, and beaches to keep the wildlife and general public safe from pollution.
Civic Engagement
Members of AYLUS Syosset participated in a fight against gun violence alongside the Long Island branch of the organization March For Our Lives, Moms Demand Action, the League of Women Voters and AYLUS Dix Hills in front of the Nassau County Legislature building in Mineola.
Community Cohesion
AYLUS-Syosset also held a variety of online classes to promote cross-cultural understanding and community cohesion. We taught weekly ESL classes with individualized curriculum and tutors for recent immigrants, and analyzed classics like Journey to the West in weekly Chinese Cultural Appreciation courses.

AYLUS offers each volunteer the opportunity to gain valuable leadership, communication and organizational skills and joining the branch not allow you to attain volunteer hours but enables you to give back to the community while growing the branch!
